First Aid/CPR/AED Training
Frequently Asked Questions
GSGI wants the best for our girls and volunteers. It is important that everyone is safe at all times, whether it is a troop meeting, a field trip, or camping adventure. When planning events other than meetings, be sure to check out the Safety Activity Checkpoints
Why First Aid/CPR/AED certification?
To be prepared! This training covers a variety of accidents that can happen from minor to serious cuts, from choking, to being unresponsive.
GSGI Hosted Courses
GSGI hosts Blended learning of First Aid/CPR/AED training throughout the course of the year. These trainings are led by American Red Cross instructors.
What is Blended Learning?
Blended Learning consists of watching a series of video modules in the comfort of your own home then attending a in person session for the skills portion of the training.
Can my Service Unit request CPR Training?
Yes! If your Service Unit has at least 10 people for the training, we can work on scheduling a date and time and get registration on our website.
Can girls participate in First Aid/CPR/AED training?
Girls can take First Aide/CPR/AED training at the age of 14.
What if I am already certified?
Send an email to info@gsiowa.org with a picture of your valid CPR certification – we will add it to your record and troop!
Youth Mental Health First Aid
The National Council for Mental Wellbeing and Girl Scouts of the USA are proud to work together to provide Youth Mental Health First Aid trainings to volunteers who work directly with young people. This training gives adults the skills necessary to identify, understand, and respond to children and adolescents (ages 6–18) who may be developing a mental health or substance use challenge, and to help them connect to appropriate care.
Check out The Hub for upcoming training opportunities. Most of our Youth Mental Health First Aid classes are structured to be “blended learning,” meaning that there are two methods of learning:
2-hour, self-paced online course through MHFA Connect as individual pre-work
4.5 to 5.5-hour instructor-led group session, either in person or via video conference (the type of session is specified in the GSGI Event Calendar listing; most will be blended virtual)
There is a $35 cost to register, and there must be a minimum of 5 participants to host the instructor-led session.
Registrant must attend both portions of training to receive the certificate upon completion.
